I think the NYT and WaPo are still free today. There’s some interesting analysis over there on how the pundits just plain got it so remarkably wrong. I blame the Democratic Party for this one. They failed to see that the last thing this country wanted was another connected political insider. And they rammed through Hillary’s nomination, a deeply flawed candidate that some people simply couldn’t vote for. Any other Democrat would likely have won, given how close the election was.
Fasten your seatbelt. It’s going to be a wild ride until the mid-term elections.

Yup I’ll blame the democrats and the baby boomers (nobody cares that your “the best” generation)voters that outnumbered the youth. I’ll see you in B.C. when I get my citizenship revoked to make america great again. Fuck 2016 with a porcupine cone.

I’m not worried about Trump as much as I am worried about living in a country that would elect him. I’m Middle-Eastern. I look Muslim. I’m genuinely terrified.

Doesn’t help when you focus on securing the minority vote so hard that you completely alienate the majority.

My grandfather voted Trump purely because “he’s a Republican” and since he’s been a Republican his whole life he can’t vote any other way. That is just so wrong.

When I read that, the first thing that came to my mind was “Oh shit, I had no idea, that sucks”... I sincerely hope my reaction is going to stay unjustified :(
I’ll stay away from the US for a while though. Something like 4 years or so...

Our friend Jake is an admitted racist , so he’s not going to understand what the issue is. You’re of ME descent, so according to Jake you’re arrogant. At least you aren’t Indian, so you smell ok.

Boomers weren’t the greatest generation, that was their parents. Boomers were the white picket fence, suburbs, ideal America people.
This election turned on single issue voters (9th SC Justice to overturn Rowe v Wade) and a lack of enthusiasm in minority voting, particularly the black vote.
So blame white evangelical christians that attend church 1 or more times per week, and Clinton’s sense of entitlement.

You’re scared now, but literally nothing changed since yesterday or last year. Those same people were still here, and they would still be had Hillary won. If you’re scared today, you should have been scared regardless.

How did the pundits get it wrong? The people that are most likely to vote Trump are the same people that hang up when called to participate in polls, and blow off people at exit polls.

But what does spamming Oppo with “oh my god I’m so scared” accomplish, exactly? Write your congressman. Write a bunch of congressmen. Send emails. Actually *do* something if you legitimately fear for your citizenship/freedom/life. Not to mention that all we have to see from Trump so far is a bunch of hyperbole and campaign bullshit, 90% of which contradicts itself. We have very little reason to believe he’ll follow through (or even can) with most of the stuff he’s said. Please take solace in Trump’s unpredictability until he takes office, then we will see how much of what he said was just noice.
You’re a cool guy, HondaBro, but take a minute to slow down and look critically instead of freaking out.

Hi! You seem to think that just because I dislike many people of a race/ethnicity/whatever means I think of them as lesser people or wish to see them dead. There’s a difference. Piss up a rope. There’s a difference between “muslims should be deported and blacks aren’t real people” racism and being discriminatory.

You said yourself that engineering school made you a little racist. Those were your words, not mine. I asked you to explain and you explained it pretty well, providing examples of your racism (all Arabs are arrogant and Indians smell and can’t be understood). I appreciate your honesty. Life becomes a lot simpler when people like you out yourselves.
If you continue having these thoughts I encourage you to share them with everyone around you. Make sure to share them with your boss and coworkers, and mention them at any and all interviews! Maybe try explaining you theory regarding degrees of racism. They’ll really enjoy that.
